“The fashion world is embracing transgender models and we think that’s great, but we couldn’t help to ask ourselves how the traditional fashion gaze can change if we keep the same normative crew behind the camera. So we invited five amazing creatives, all transgender, to make our latest story.” Sara Hildén Bengtson, Creative Director, & Other Stories

The team created  a series of portraits shot by Amos Mac and a behind scenes film, “The Gaze & Other Stories” by acclaimed Swedish director Ninja Thyberg. Thyberg is known for her work that examines the themes of stereotypes, sexualities and identities.

“Fashion has played a huge role in the process of constructing my identity. Fashion was my first exposure to different ways of being a woman that weren’t necessarily rooted in conventions or conventional beauty. Hari Nef, model

“The categories of male and female in fashion are an ancient thing. I don’t think a non-binary option should be ignored. It shouldn’t be so shocking and so radical, it’s all about what you’re comfortable in”.  Amos Mac, photographer

“Inspired by contemporary dressing, we wanted to bring ideas we love from sportswear into the ready-to-wear wardrobe. By merging two contrasting sides in one collection, mixing functional materials with natural qualities like wool, these everyday pieces have a playful dynamic and go great with everything.” Stephanie Sikkes, designer, & Other Stories

The collection featured in this story will be available in stores and online from August 20th 2015. Prices vary from €125 parka and €75 skirt to €65 dress and €35 tights.

The film, “The Gaze & Other Stories”, can be found here.

Since & Other Stories launch in 2013, they have continuously worked with an array of creatives showing diversity in age, ethnicity and personality.
